The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 3: How do we break these evil covenants?

The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 3: How do we break these evil covenants?

Welcome back! If you haven't read Part 2 of this blog, 'The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 2: How Do We Enter Evil Covenants?', I recommend doing so to ensure we're all on the same page. Now, let's dive in.
Now that we understand how our ancestors forged evil covenants and how one can unknowingly enter into covenants with devils, the next question becomes: How do we break these evil covenants? The answer is through repentance and renouncing them.
Before we go any further, if you have not given your life to Jesus—meaning you have decided to worship Him in truth and Spirit—this is the time to do it. Breaking evil covenants will not work if Jesus is not Lord over your life. For those who have strayed away from Jesus, it is also time to rededicate your life to Him. Breaking evil covenants is serious business, and you must be in the right standing with God to prevail in this ordeal.
Repeat this prayer after me: Lord Jesus, I repent of all my sins. I acknowledge You as my Lord and Savior. I thank You for saving my life with Your own. I give my life back to You for You to use as You see fit. I invite the Holy Spirit into my life. Take away my heart of stone and fill me with Your Spirit. I thank You by faith that I will be made whole and that You will renew my mind and transform me. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
If you are praying this prayer for the very first time or truly mean it this time, congratulations! Buy a Bible and download the Bible app on your devices, then start reading. Also, start talking to God through prayer. Find a true believer in Christ who lives their faith through actions, not just words—they will help you. I will be praying for you. Welcome to the Kingdom of God. Now that this is done, let's return to business.
Renouncing an evil covenant may seem simple, but there's much more to it. It involves a process and requires understanding the expectations. Achieving this requires consistency and resilience. Deliverance is for those who truly seek freedom and are willing to change their lifestyle. It's similar to losing weight: maintaining it requires changing your diet and habits. This process isn't always quick. Deliverance is for those who are genuinely desperate for freedom.
As I mentioned, breaking an evil covenant requires repentance and renunciation. It is a form of spiritual warfare. Essentially, you are stepping into the devil's territory and evicting them. Some of these evil spirits have been entrenched for thousands of generations, and they will fight back fiercely to regain their territory. When reclaiming what God has given you since the beginning of time, you must be prepared and ready for battle.
The first step is repentance, which involves two parts. First, repent for all known and unknown sins, including the sin that led to the covenant you are renouncing. Secondly, repent on behalf of your ancestors and everyone in your bloodline for their sins, acknowledging your connection to the bloodline.
One significant reason to repent on behalf of our ancestors, aside from God's declaration that He will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations, is found in Lamentations 5:7: "Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities." This indicates that we have inherited these iniquities and must repent for them.
Additionally, Leviticus 26 highlights the reasons for this warning: when Moses conveyed God's laws to the Israelites, God warned that disobedience and committing detestable sins would lead to their removal from the land and captivity by their enemies. In verses 39-45, God indicates that they will suffer for their sins until they confess and repent for both their own iniquities and those of their ancestors.
Here’s a small revelation: God insists on confession and repentance because these iniquities were passed down from their fathers. People often act according to how they were conditioned, which is why the Scripture says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). I digress; let's return to Leviticus 26.
Let's read verses 40-41: "But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me, and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt."
The point I'm trying to emphasize with these verses is that breaking generational curses caused by detestable sins requires true repentance with a humble heart. This repentance must include acknowledging the sins of our ancestors for God to hear us. If you are one of those believers who think God will not punish us collectively because of a bloodline or nation, consider the example found in Joshua 7:1-26, where God punished Israel as a whole for the sins of one individual.
Repentance means recognizing your sins, seeking forgiveness, and turning away from those wrongdoings. If you stumble again, keep repenting sincerely until God delivers you. Repentance is powerful because it keeps one in the right standing with God, allowing Him to act on our behalf. As scripture says in 1 John 1:9-10, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
God is just, and repentance closes the door to the enemy. As we remember from scripture, "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Sin gives the enemy a just cause to afflict us. This is why God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay for our sins with His life. When we repent, we are forgiven and can boldly enter the throne of grace to obtain mercy from God (Hebrews 4:16).
God is holy, and we can only obtain righteousness through Jesus by living His life with the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus stands in the gap for us; He advocates for us. Our righteousness is like filthy rags, but through Jesus, we are made clean. Paul stated in Romans 8:26, "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Here, Paul is showing us that we are weak without the help of the Holy Spirit. We cannot walk in righteousness without Him. The Holy Spirit helps us subdue the flesh, which rebels against God, and intercedes for us according to the Father’s will.
When I say our righteousness is like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), it is indeed true. We can never be perfect or holy before God based on our own merit or actions in observing His law. We can only achieve righteousness by embracing Jesus and accepting the exchange of His life for ours. Then, the Holy Spirit steps in to renew our minds and transform us, creating a desire to be Christ-like. When we sin, the Holy Spirit prompts us to repent immediately. This gives us an understanding of the scripture that states, 'Whoever abides in Him (Jesus) does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him' (1 John 3:6).
Reading further in verses 7-9, it explains that we should not be deceived: whoever practices righteousness is righteous, just as Jesus is righteous. But whoever sins (purposely) is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. Because of this, God sent His Son Jesus to manifest His power and destroy the works of the devil. It emphasizes that whoever is born of God does not sin because His seed remains in that person.
Let's talk about sin. Sin carries consequences, giving the enemy legal grounds to operate in our lives. Allow me to elaborate: in the spiritual realm, there are two opposing sides at war, good and evil. To be fair, God, in His justice and recognition of our free will, established a rule that both sides must follow, including Himself. He granted humanity dominion over the earth, which means that for spiritual entities to interact with earthly matters, they require human consent. God made a covenant with Adam, and when Adam broke this covenant, sin entered our world.
God is holy and just, and He hates sin. It's that simple: sin leads to death, and atonement requires the shedding of blood. Today, the blood of Jesus atones for our sins. In the Old Testament, animals had to be sacrificed to atone for sins because they were innocent, unlike us. Conversely, righteousness brings life and freedom.
When there is unrepentant sin, it allows the opposing side to act. The devil, as the accuser of the brethren, reports any violations of God's law to bring affliction upon us (Revelation 12:10-12, Job 1:6-7). Additionally, he seeks out individuals to destroy and sets traps for them. This is why Scripture warns us to be sober-minded and watchful, as the adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). 2 Corinthians 2:11 cautions us not to be ignorant of Satan's schemes. Because God is just, He cannot prevent these afflictions from occurring.
However, in His mercy, God sent the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf, making us aware of our sins and giving us the grace to repent and turn away from them. It is through the prompting of the Holy Spirit that we activate spiritual laws which work in our favor, helping us overcome the adversary. The Holy Spirit prompts us to pray to overcome the devil’s schemes. This is why Paul states in Romans 8:26 that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf according to God’s will. He also encourages us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). He admonishes us to pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication, and to keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints (Ephesians 6:18). Colossians 4:2 also states to continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
My brethren, the struggle with the flesh, which gives birth to sin, is influenced by an evil spirit. That is why we must pray without ceasing and invite the Holy Spirit. To overcome and subdue our flesh, we must pursue the Holy Spirit and submit to Him for help. Unlike the forceful and seductive nature of evil spirits, the Holy Spirit is gentle and direct. He will not act unless we ask Him. Meanwhile, He prays for us, hoping we will hear and desire Him so He can lead us. Jesus showed us how to walk with the Holy Spirit by praying without ceasing.
Remember, Jesus came into the world as a man, even though He is God, and faced every possible test a man could experience. He also promised that if we believe in Him and submit to His will, greater signs will follow us. We will be able to do all He did and even more because He has given us the Holy Spirit (John 14:12, 26; Mark 16:17; John 15:26; Acts 1:8).
A small revelation: When we become born again, our spiritual senses and gifts are activated. We become one with Jesus Christ, having died and resurrected with Him, and we are given access to everything He has. This access is made possible through the Holy Spirit. However, we must first make a conscious decision to have a relationship with Him, pursuing Him daily to align with God. The Holy Spirit gives us the capacity to explore all that God has promised. We are able to explore the spiritual realm as children of God. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth of the glory of God, which is why He is called the Spirit of Truth. This is how Jesus was able to do all He did as a man with the help of the Holy Spirit. He embraced the Holy Spirit and was led by Him, as did the disciples, Paul, and other apostles in the New Testament.
Having risen and returned to heaven, Jesus also took on the role of a priest to intercede on our behalf, for all those who come to God through Him. This allows us to embrace the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, and experience the glory of God. The first thing the Holy Spirit deals with is sin, to close the door to affliction. He brings awareness of our sins and iniquities, leading us to repentance, a continuous process. He also reveals spiritual laws in scripture for us to activate, helping us to prevail in whatever situation we face and preparing us for future challenges. This is why repentance plays a crucial role in our liberty.
I took you through this path to help you understand the importance of repentance. Repentance is incredibly powerful and closes the door to the enemy. When we repent, we can boldly approach God's throne to seek mercy and His intervention in our lives. Repentance leads to transformation and gives liberty.
The next step is to renounce all evil covenants. Think of an evil covenant like an onion: you peel away one layer, and another appears until you reach the core. The first step in renouncing these evil covenants is identifying them. You can do this by recognizing negative patterns in your bloodline or persistent challenges in your life. Your dreams can also reveal these covenants, as you will see the patterns within them.
Once you identify the patterns, you are ready to take action. Examples of negative or evil patterns include premature death, cancer, infidelity, sexual assault, molestation, poverty, setbacks, rejection, delays, abuse, accidents, violence, anti-marriage, divorce, barrenness, incarceration, mental illness, misfortune, and other similar adversities. If you're unsure how to recognize and understand the effects of these generational curses in your life, revisit Part 1 of this blog.
Breaking evil covenants requires more than ordinary efforts of renouncing them in prayers; it necessitates fasting in your prayers. The devils we are confronting, as mentioned in Matthew 17:21, only come out through prayer and fasting. This is essential—there's no alternative. For the record, biblical fasting is a spiritual practice involving voluntary abstention from food, or both food and water, for a designated period to seek God.
I recommend asking the Holy Spirit to guide you on the type and duration of your fast. When breaking an evil covenant, the Holy Spirit may lead you to genuine repentance, fasting, or a period of consecration. As I mentioned earlier, an evil covenant is like an onion that you peel layer by layer until you reach the core. You may need to fast multiple times to rid yourself of these devils, as each case is unique. By the time you are fully delivered, you will be transformed.
Before I give an example of how to break an evil covenant in prayer, let's talk about dreams. Dreams are one of the primary ways God communicates with us, in addition to His Word (Scripture). While some people have visions, trances, or hear Him audibly, many of these experiences often begin with dreams. Here are a few scriptures that support the idea that God speaks to us through dreams: Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17, Job 33:8, Daniel 2:19, 1 Kings 3:5, 1 Samuel 28:6, Genesis 20:3, Genesis 15:1, Genesis 46:2, Matthew 2:13, Genesis 37:5-10, Genesis 41:1-7, Matthew 2:12, Matthew 2:13, and Acts 18:9. God gave every human the ability to dream as a way to communicate with us, whether we are believers or unbelievers.
In the spiritual realm, spirits often forge covenants with us through our dreams. The spiritual realm is the parent realm of our reality; everything happens first in the spiritual realm before manifesting in our physical world. An example of this is the case of Ahab, where it was determined in the spiritual realm that he would die before it happened in the physical world (1 Kings 22:19-28). Your true self, which is your spirit, is what you see in dreams (2 Chronicles 18:18-22, Genesis 40). This is also evident in Solomon's experience (1 Kings 3:5-28).
Life is spiritual, meaning that everything that happens in our lives has its origin in the spirit realm, where actions are taken before they manifest in our physical world. The scripture says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). This tells us that there is an influence from another dimension, an invisible force initiating things.
Before God acts in our physical world, He always reveals His plans to His prophets (Numbers 12:6; Genesis 41:1-7; Job 4:12-21; Daniel 2:1-49, Matthew 2:13). This spiritual principle is applied in the spiritual realm as well. For any spirit to manifest its agenda in a person's life, it must first present this plan to the individual to secure an agreement, which is called a covenant. This often occurs through dreams.
Our dreams can serve as an intelligence report or a preview of what is planned in the spiritual realm before it manifests in the physical world, allowing us to accept or decline it. If we decline it, we can reject or cancel it through prayer. Conversely, if we agree with it, we can affirm it in our prayers. However, if we disregard the dream, we accept the plan by default. Most Christians are ignorant about dreams, and as a result, they suffer adversity that could have been avoided. As scripture says, "My people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6).
There are two types of dreamers: those who dream and see events unfold in real life exactly as they dreamed, and those who dream in parables or symbols that need interpretation. For example, dreaming about missing an exit and arriving late, or rushing to the airport only to miss your flight, symbolizes delay. This pattern in dreams indicates a covenant with the spirit of delay, which you need to renounce or break before it manifests in your life. If you have the same type of dream three times or more, or if your dream continues from where it stopped, it is a serious warning and a danger alert, urging you to take action.
Most people dream in symbols, while a few see their dreams unfold in real life. Some have a mix of both. When the enemy reveals their plans through dreams, these are often symbolic and need interpretation with the Holy Spirit's help. For instance, dreaming of being in your childhood home, at a former job, or doing something you used to do can symbolize setbacks or backwardness.
When the devil reveals his plan to a person, he won't appear with horns, a tail, and a pitchfork, announcing, "Hey! I'm the devil, and I'm here to ruin your life. Make a pact with me." Of course not. Instead, he will approach in a seductive or confusing way, hoping you are unaware of the significance of your dreams, to secure a covenant.
Therefore, it is crucial to pay attention to your dreams, especially when breaking evil covenants. Dreams provide valuable insight into the spirits you are connected (covenant) with and reveal plans from the spiritual realm. Remember, the spiritual realm or world is the foundation of our reality.
Now that I’ve covered fasting and dreams—both crucial topics for breaking evil covenants and stopping generational curses—let’s dive into how to break an evil covenant. I’ll provide an example of how to do this through prayer.
To begin, let's go through a checklist:
  1. Invite the Holy Spirit into this journey, asking Him to take over and guide us.
  2. Identify the evil patterns with the help of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Enter into a fast, following the Holy Spirit’s guidance on the type and duration of the fast.
  4. Repent of all sins, both known and unknown, including those of your ancestors. If you are aware of specific sins, mention them and repent on behalf of your bloodline. Then, thank God for His mercy and worship Him.
  5. Renounce the evil patterns and covenants, such as poverty, setbacks, rejection, etc.
  6. Destroy the altars associated with these covenants.
Remember, when breaking an evil covenant, you should be fasting. For an example prayer to break these covenants, click on the link: “Prayer to Break Evil Covenants.”
Let's pause here and continue in the next blog, "The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 4: The Real Work in Breaking Evil Covenants and Maintaining Your Deliverance." In the upcoming post, we will discuss what to expect when breaking evil covenants, the steps involved, the specific prayers to use, and how to maintain your deliverance.

Cultivating a prayer life is of paramount importance for your spiritual journey, particularly in a fast-paced society where allocating exclusive time for prayer can be challenging. The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 2: How Do We Enter Evil Covenants?

The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 2: How Do We Enter Evil Covenants?

Welcome back! Let's revisit our last blog post.
A generational curse is an inherited affliction or curse passed down through bloodlines, often persisting for three to four generations (Numbers 14:18, Exodus 20:5, Exodus 34:6-7). These curses typically manifest as negative patterns—whether behavioral, emotional, or circumstantial—that recur within a family lineage. Originating from ancestors, these adverse patterns result in recurring problems for their descendants.
Generational curses happen as a result of evil covenants being forged. Once these covenants are established and altars raised, they give evil spirits legal grounds to affect the lives of the individuals and their descendants.
To ensure we're all on the same page, I recommend reading "The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 1" if you haven't done so already. It will provide a solid understanding of this topic. With that said, let's proceed.
You might wonder, how do we manage to enter into covenants with spirits in general? Often, it starts with our ancestors. Covenants made with God, who is a spirit, can last up to a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9). In contrast, covenants with evil spirits or demons can persist for three to four generations (Exodus 20:5). When you read the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, you notice a pattern: God often forges covenants with individuals to fulfill His will. A good example is Abraham (Genesis 12:7, Genesis 15:1-21). These covenants usually come with conditions—if you do this, you will receive that. If you break the agreement, you face consequences. With God, His instructions are very clear and there is no manipulation. He always gives you a choice to commit. The devil and his spirits, however, are a different story altogether. They lie and trick people into covenants, seeking only a legal ground to operate, which often comes from violating God’s laws.
Let's delve into a bit of Bible study. God said in scripture, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments" (Exodus 20:4-6).
In other words, serving other gods brings curses upon one's life and their descendants. Giving homage to deities, pledging allegiance to other gods, and following their rituals—even if it's just tradition and seems harmless—is considered serving false gods. Examples of this include sorcery, witchcraft, white or black magic, lodges, occultism, idolatry, tarot card reading, palm reading, rebellion, yoga, fraternities, consulting psychics or mediums, and more. God is a jealous God, and in His Word, He warns that serving other gods will bring the consequences of the father's sins upon the children to the third and fourth generations. According to scripture, participating in these practices signifies a rejection of God. As stated in Exodus 20:5b, 'visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.'
As I mentioned earlier, one of the most common ways to enter into covenants with spirits is through our ancestors. These agreements create lasting bonds and are passed down for generations. Covenants with evil spirits endure for three to four generations, while those with God can last up to a thousand generations. For instance, Abraham's covenant with God was passed down to his son Isaac, his grandson Jacob, and eventually to the entire nation of Israel.
Another compelling example is found in the story of David. God made a covenant with David, assuring him that He would establish the throne of his kingdom forever (1 Chronicles 17:1-27, Psalm 132:11-12). Despite the rebellion of some of David’s descendants, when you examine the history of Israel, you see that God remained faithful to His covenant.
I recommend reading the books of 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles to see how God kept His covenants. Additionally, the book of Genesis will help you understand how He established these covenants. For a more comprehensive understanding, consider reading the entire Old Testament. Furthermore, reading Paul's writings in the New Testament will provide practical insights. This will provide deeper insight into covenants and altars. I promise, your perspective on God, spirits, and the connection between our physical lives and the spiritual realm will change. You'll come to see how events are influenced by the spiritual realm before they manifest in our reality.
Generational curses are linked to covenants made with evil spirits. These spirits cannot operate in our physical world without human involvement, so they form covenants with people to gain legal rights here. To understand this better, I recommend reading my blog posts titled "Spirit Realm. Part 1" and "Spirit Realm. Part 2." Evil spirits do not seek casual relationships with humans; they aim for long-term connections to extend their influence through multiple generations. Their intention is to operate beyond the fourth generation. With each generation, they renew these covenants to maintain their hold until someone in the bloodline breaks it.
Evil spirits renew their covenants with humans through "open doors" created by sin. Remember the scripture that says, "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Unrepentant sin carries consequences, granting the devil and his spirits the legal right to operate in one's life. When a sin dominates a bloodline, it is often orchestrated by an evil spirit with whom they have made a covenant. These spirits influence individuals in the bloodline to commit sins, ensuring they face the consequences. By gaining a legal right through the covenant, these evil spirits can influence individuals to sin and remain either unrepentant or unaware of their actions, thus ensuring they suffer the resulting consequences.
When you read Deuteronomy 27 and 28, you'll find a clear depiction of the blessings that come with obedience and the curses associated with serving false gods and disobeying His commandments. Remember, we are slaves to whom we obey or serve. This is why these evil spirits can influence us. Their objective is to distract us from fulfilling our destiny, which aligns with God’s will, and to make it seem as if God's word is ineffective. I highly recommend reading the entire Old Testament to understand covenants, both good and bad. This will also help you see God as a covenant-keeping God and provide a fuller grasp of the New Covenant.
In short, the New Covenant means we are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). Whatever He possesses, we possess, and whatever He achieves, we can achieve even more, as stated in John 14:12-14. Jesus made it possible for us to overcome the world and fulfill God’s will. All we need to do is accept Him and embrace the exchange He offers: living Christ's life because He paid for it and leaving our old lives behind.
Now that I have established that generational curses are real and provided examples of their effects, along with the fact that we coexist with spirits that influence our actions to achieve their agendas, let's delve into how our ancestors forged these covenants.
For example, if a person's religion is pagan (worship of any deity other than the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), and they pledge allegiance to any deity or idol, including celestial bodies like the sun or moon, or even use elements of nature (earth, air, fire, water, and spirits), they are forming a covenant with devils. According to Deuteronomy 28 & Exodus 20:4-5, this covenant automatically brings a curse from God on that person and their descendants for four generations.
Once a covenant is made, an altar is established to invite the spirits and receive their demands for appeasement. The spirits are appeased by following the rituals they demand, which gives them the legal right to operate within that bloodline. Remember, any spirit other than the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, is an evil spirit whose purpose is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). The devil and his spirits hate us because their fate is sealed, while we humans have hope in Jesus. Covenanting with evil spirits, thinking any good can come from it, is a lie from the pit of hell. These spirits are only seeking the legal ground to destroy one's life, hinder one from fulfilling their destiny, and, if they cannot completely obstruct it, make it so difficult that one starts doubting God's Word and compromises their faith.
Just a reminder for those who have been reading my blog: you know that spirits cannot legally operate in our world unless we give them permission. For those who may not be aware, here's a quick recap: When God created humanity, He granted us dominion over the Earth and instructed us to be fruitful, multiply, replenish, and subdue it (Genesis 1:26, 28; Psalm 8:6). Only humans have the authority to operate in this world through their physical bodies. In our realm, spiritual entities—both divine and demonic—require human consent to act, often through covenants. For God's will to be fulfilled on Earth, human cooperation is essential. Interactions with evil spirits or demons often involve covenants or agreements with humans, typically made through an altar. This explains how our ancestors made covenants with devils and how one can form covenants with evil spirits.
Another way our ancestors forged covenants with devils was by seeking help from spirits other than God, our Creator, regardless of their intentions. Also engaging in rituals dictated by these non-divine spirits—such as pouring salt, urinating at the front door to drive away evil spirits, taking spiritual baths, tying red strings for protection, or using raw eggs to cleanse negative energy, etc.—constitutes forging covenants with devils, even if done out of ignorance or tradition. Additionally, seeking guidance through mediums or consulting occult practices not rooted in God's teachings also facilitated these covenants.
Participating in traditions originating from omens often involves rituals believed to be influenced by evil spirits. For example, making a wish upon seeing a shooting star, tossing money into a fountain for good luck, or Bird pooping on you as a sign of good luck, encountering a black cat crossing your path, and more. All of these practices can be seen as connecting individuals to an evil covenant.
My beloved brethren in Christ, always investigate the origin of any tradition or omen you practice, no matter how harmless it seems. If it contradicts the Bible, stop and repent, as your participation may tie you to an evil covenant.
If you come from a background that worships deities, you are likely tied to an evil covenant. Following traditions that honor other gods or participating in seemingly harmless rituals can also connect you to such covenants. Take yoga, for example it appears harmless and beneficial for weight loss and stress relief, but do you realize that each pose or stretch pays homage to Hindu gods? In fact, devout Hindus are upset that the Western world has turned their religious practices into mere exercise routines. Even participating in festivals that originate from other deities' origins can tie you to an evil covenant. My advice is to always investigate the origin of any festival before you participate, even if it seems modern and is a norm in our society.
Another example of a seemingly harmless ritual is pouring libations for a loved one who has passed away. However, this practice can also tie you to an evil covenant. Similarly, consulting a psychic, getting a palm reading for fun, or even just reading your horoscope can create such a connection. Additionally, practices like meditation aimed at opening the third eye, which involves entering another dimension, can expose you to evil spirits and demons.
Now that we understand how our ancestors forged evil covenants and how one can unknowingly enter into covenants with devils, the next question becomes: How do we break these evil covenants? We will stop here and continue in the next blog, "The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 3: How do we break these evil covenants?"
In the meantime, take a deep dive into your background and examine any traditions you practice, even those from the church. If they don't align with the Word of God or contradict His ordinances, it's time to start questioning and identifying any evil covenants you may unknowingly be a part of. This step is crucial for breaking these covenants. See you in the next blog! Link to part 3, "The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 3: How do we break these evil covenants?"

The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 1

The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 1

A generational curse refers to an inherited curse from one's bloodline, typically transmitted from one generation to the next, often persisting for three to four generations (Number 14:18, Exodus 20:5, Exodus 34:6-7). It usually presents itself in one's life and lineage as negative or evil patterns. These patterns, whether behavioral, emotional, or circumstantial, are passed down through successive generations within a family lineage, originating from the ancestors of the lineage and resulting in adverse circumstances or recurring problems in the descendants' lives.
Put simply, if you notice a recurring pattern within your family lineage where a majority of family members experience premature death, cancer, infidelity, sexual assault, molestation, poverty, anti-progress, setback, rejection, delay, abuse, accidents, violence, anti-marriage, divorce, barrenness, incarceration, mental illness, misfortune or similar adversities, it is likely indicative of a generational curse.
In today's blog, we will discuss the reality of generational curses, examining their validity and supporting our discussion with scriptures. Additionally, we will provide remedies for addressing this phenomenon. This topic promises to be enlightening and transformative, potentially indefinitely altering your spiritual journey with God.
Let me share a brief story about my journey with God. Growing up in a Christian home, I was taught to love Jesus for as long as I can remember. Like many Christians, I ventured out to explore the world as a teenager and again in my late twenties to thirties. I suppose you could call me a late bloomer, as I seemed to start everything later in life. I once believed that after I was saved, no curses could afflict me. After all, scripture says, "No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against me in judgment, I shall condemn" (Isaiah 54:17). Boy, was I wrong. The devil slapped me upside the head! Let me begin my story by sharing how I came to this realization.
As I entered my thirties and progressed into my late thirties, I noticed a pattern: setbacks and rejections. Just imagine five levels. I'd start at level 1, reach level 5, fall back to level 3, and start the cycle again. This pattern persisted into my mid-thirties. As each year passed and I moved into my late thirties, I found myself falling even lower, eventually hitting rock bottom. Then, I began asking questions and examining myself, especially because I work hard.
I faced a lot of rejection. People would love me at the beginning of a relationship, only to dislike me by the end, whether in professional or romantic relationships. This pattern repeated itself in every type of relationship I had, and even those who rejected me couldn't explain their behavior. Despite working the hardest and being the best at what I did, I never received the rewards I deserved.
Ironically, despite being an introverted and independent person who preferred to stay away from others, people always seemed to invade my space and, for some reason, wanted my company. Faced with these persistent challenges, I realized this might not be natural and turned to God for help. I believed that only God could deliver me from this, but first, I needed to get right with Him.
On New Year’s Day of 2015, I rededicated my life to God and decided to worship Him in truth and spirit. Immediately, I entered spiritual warfare with little knowledge and no understanding of the rules of engagement in the spiritual realm. When I say the devil slapped me upside the head, I’m not joking. For almost two years, I barely slept—only two or three hours a night—because I was tormented in my sleep whenever I did manage to rest. I dreaded going to bed, and the people of God and churches I sought help from thought I was crazy; some even distanced themselves from me. I fasted continuously just to get a little relief.
Fear and paranoia became my daily norm. When everything that could possibly go wrong in my life did happen, I lost everything—my friendships, job, finances, marriage, and health. I became homeless and was at the mercy of a friend. That was rock bottom for me. Rejection became a daily reality, and bad luck seemed to follow me everywhere. Everything was a struggle; I had to pray for everything, or something would inevitably go wrong. This was the life I lived for three years.
During this period, I committed to fasting until I saw change or received some form of relief. My only source of hope was God. Throughout this time, I read the entire Bible and reread the Old Testament multiple times. All I did was pray, fast, and immerse myself in scripture. Prayer became a lifeline because my existence depended on it, while fasting was a desperate attempt to gain God's attention for relief. Reading my Bible was a quest to understand where I might have been erring, as I firmly believed in God's truthfulness and the authenticity of His word. Gradually, I developed a deep love for the Bible and a profound affection for God—I fell in love with God. I also realized that many beliefs I had held as a Christian were based on incorrect doctrines or misconstrued interpretations. This realization marked the beginning of a gradual transformation in my life.
In short, I came to understand how covenants and altars apply to generational curses and their effects on my life. This revelation was a game-changer. Many Christians are unaware of the significance of covenants and altars, and our lack of knowledge often leads to unnecessary suffering. As scripture says, “But through knowledge shall the just be delivered” (Proverbs 11:9b). Another scripture also warns, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6a).
The root or foundation of any generational curse lies in covenants. But what are covenants? A covenant is a pact with spirits, whether good or bad. Altars are the vehicle where these spirits can fulfill their purposes, serving as avenues for these spirits to enter our lives and influence events. For example, read 1 Kings 22:19-38 to see how a spirit influenced the events leading to Ahab's demise.
We coexist with spirits and are not in total control of our actions; there is always a spirit influencing us, whether it is the Holy Spirit or an evil spirit. Remember the scripture that says, "You are a slave to whom you obey" (Romans 6:16). And as Romans 6:6 states, 'Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.' Whomever you offer yourself to is what influences you. That's why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit, who is our helper, comforter, and advocate, reminding us of Jesus's instructions and helping us fulfill God's will.
On the other hand, the devil operates similarly through his evil spirits or demons.  He is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), orchestrating the system of our world to rebel against God. The only way to overcome the devil is by fully submitting to God and yielding to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us put on the whole armor of God daily (Ephesians 6:11) because, in reality, we wrestle against evil spirits (Ephesians 6:12-13). Without God's help, we are no match for them. By nature, humanity is rebellious, having inherited sin from Adam  (Romans 5:12-14). Our flesh is at enmity with God (Romans 8:7-8), meaning it is in opposition to God and naturally rebels against God's word.
In Romans 7:4, Paul states that we are dead to the law through the body of Christ, married to Him, and expected to bear fruit to God. Verse 5, which is my emphasis, reads, "For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death." Verse 6 continues, "But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter." These verses highlight my point: our flesh naturally rebels against God and must die in order to submit to Him. The flesh is a slave to sin, which is the devil’s tool, as a result of Adam’s fall. The flesh is influenced by evil spirits.
In a nutshell, altars are places where humans transact with spirits, granting them the legal right to operate in our lives and those of our descendants. They are also spaces where destinies are exchanged. To raise an altar, covenants must be made. A covenant is an agreement with spirits. If you have little or no understanding of altars, I recommend reading my blog posts, “What are Altars?” and “Open Door,” to gain a comprehensive understanding. Additionally, I highly recommend the book "Deliverance from Demonic Covenants and Curses" by Rev. James A. Solomon. Once you have a good grasp of covenants and altars, you should also read one of my blogs titled “Prayer to Break Evil Covenants.”
Let me shed some light on the effects of generational curses. To make it more practical, I'll illustrate this with an example. Imagine a family where a generational curse against marriage exists. In this family, most men are married, but the women often become single mothers. Even if they marry, the relationships frequently end in divorce, and those who stay married often face turbulent relationships, ultimately raising their children alone.
Now, ask yourself: Do you think these women want to be in these situations, especially after witnessing what their family members go through? Absolutely not, but they cannot help it. This is not a learned behavior; it is influenced by a spirit with which the bloodline has a covenant.
Another example is addiction, such as alcoholism, substance abuse, gambling, or sex addiction. Are these tendencies inherent? Absolutely. Generational curses are not learned behaviors. While doctors, counselors, and psychologists might argue that these issues stem from the environment or circumstances, which makes sense, evil spirits orchestrate these events to ensure destructive patterns continue because they have been granted legal grounds through covenants.
Let's return to our Bible study and examine the women married into Abraham's lineage, starting with Sarah, and then moving to Rebekah and Rachel. They all shared one significant challenge: barrenness. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all had to pray for their wives to bear children. This issue persisted through three generations. Given that Abraham walked closely with God, why did this affliction affect his descendants? Perhaps it has something to do with his ancestors, who worshipped idols, and the fact that Abraham married his sister, which, according to God's law, is considered incest. Such relationships are detestable to God and result in a curse (Leviticus 18:9, Leviticus 20:17).
We will pause here and continue in my next blog post, 'The Reality of Generational Curses, Part 2: How Do We Enter Evil Covenants?' Before reading the next post, take some time to examine your life. Identify any prominent negative patterns in your family lineage and see how they connect with the persistent challenges you face. This is a crucial first step in becoming aware of generational curses affecting your bloodline. You cannot fight what you do not acknowledge as a problem. The devil uses this tactic to bind people, trapping them in an invisible prison.
