What is Prayer?
Prayer, in its simplest form, is a conversation with God. It is a profound yet accessible act that allows us to engage with the Almighty Creator of the universe. Through prayer, we tap into the immense power and wisdom of the One who holds the very keys to our existence and our hearts.
The Scriptures, serving as a guiding light, encourage us to adopt a lifestyle of unceasing prayer. In this blog post, let's explore the significance of prayer and uncover its core purpose: to establish and nurture a profound relationship with our Creator.
Why do we need to talk to God? The answer lies in our very purpose of existence. According to the Scriptures, we were created in the image and likeness of God. Our lives find their true meaning and fulfillment in serving Him as His priests, carrying out His will on earth. Prayer becomes the vehicle through which we align our hearts with His divine purpose. It is through prayer that we seek His guidance, wisdom, and strength to live according to His will. Prayer is the bridge that connects our finite selves with the infinite love and wisdom of God (Genesis 1:26-27, Matthew 6:10, 1 Peter 2:5, Revelation 1:6, Isaiah 61:6).
God, the God of order, meticulously designed everything on earth with a purpose. From the realms of heaven to the physical and spiritual dimensions, all aspects of creation are bound by His laws. He established a divine order that governs every facet of existence and entered into a covenant with humanity. When God created Man, He gave us dominion over the earth. He said to be fruitful, multiply, replenish, and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:26,28, Psalm 8:6).
Only humans have the legal authority to operate in this world in their physical bodies. Spiritual entities, including God and demons, require the consent of a human to operate in this realm. In order for God's will to be fulfilled on Earth, humans must cooperate with Him. Prayer serves as a crucial tool in aligning our hearts and actions with God's divine plan. By praying according to His will, which is revealed in the Scriptures, we tap into the power of God's Word. Through prayer, we deepen our connection with God, gain an understanding of His ways, and become active participants in manifesting His kingdom on Earth.
I've just briefly touched on the subject of prayer, giving us a foundational understanding. To recap, prayer is the bridge connecting us to God. As priests to God, our primary purpose is to pray according to His will. It's important to recognize that nothing on earth happens without the involvement of God through prayer. In essence, prayer is our way of communicating with God, aligning our desires with His will on earth as it is in heaven. Throughout the Bible, Jesus and the patriarchs were dedicated to prayer, consistently seeking God's will. Prayer is not just a one-sided conversation but a lifestyle, a two-way street that involves both speaking to God and listening for His guidance.
Prayer, in its essence, is an act of self-giving, our way of offering ourselves back to God. This concept is beautifully illustrated in Genesis 1:26, where God declares His intention to create man in His own image and likeness, granting them dominion over all the earth. What does this mean? It signifies that we bear His image, His essence, and are, in a sense, a part of Him. We are intricately connected to God, and He has chosen to establish a relationship with us, entrusting us with dominion over the earth. He partners with us to fulfill His will on earth. In essence, our relationship with God, centered on bringing His will to fruition on earth, is the very essence of pure prayer.
